Author Biographical Note:

Né en 1797 à Loches, Alfred de Vigny, d'abord militaire au service des Bourbons, commence sa carrière littéraire en 1826. Il se lie avec Victor Hugo, connaît de grands succès comme poète, romancier et dramaturge, est élu en 1845 après cinq échecs à l'Académie française. Rallié au Second Empire, il meurt à Paris en 1863.
