The term laterite refers to the red, iron-rich earth of which many West African roads are composed. It is suggestive of movement, of displacement, of changing directions and an uncertain future, but also of connectedness and a sense of place. These themes echo throughout Laterite, an evocative assemblage of verse and prose poems.
